Green Fund for the climate in Africa: 177 projects financed, 69 for the least developed countries including Senegal
As part of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) financing, 177 projects have been financed internationally. Only 69 projects are for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), including Senegal which obtained funding for 11 projects. These projects correspond to a total financing volume of 2.54 billion USD or 29% for LDCs out of a total of 8.8 billion USD approved by the GCF. This amount also represents an average of USD 2.04 per capita for all LDCs. Indeed, the climate remains a major development issue for countries. Emmanuel Seck, program coordinator at Enda Énergie, explains: "The populations are the first to be impacted by climate change (coastal erosion, soil salinization). The project to restore salty lands in the Saloum delta area, c "is to regenerate these lands so that they become much more prospective." Thus, in order to increase the capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to defend ambitious proposals, to provide expertise on issues relating to access to financing, Enda Energie brought together Cameroon, the Côté d Ivory, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and virtually Germany, Morocco and Madagascar at a two-day regional conclave on the green climate fund process in Francophone Africa. “The green climate fund as a financial mechanism of the UNFCCC remains the most important multilateral instrument in terms of investment for the deployment of climate technologies with a view to placing countries on new trajectories of carbon sobriety and climate resilience. climate change", assured the Director of Enda Énergie, Sécou Sarr. In addition, this regional meeting constitutes a platform to present the “CSO Readiness” project carried out in collaboration with Germanwatch, AESVT and JVE (Cameroon & Ivory Coast) as well as the experiences of FVC projects implemented at the national and regional levels.
