How to optimize the dissemination of Improved Stoves in the Sédhiou Region
Recent Communities of Practice meetings organized in the Sédhiou region brought together various stakeholders, including women's groups, last mile entrepreneurs (LME) and producers. These meetings helped to highlight the challenges hindering the achievement of the objectives of the Program to Strengthen Access to Improved Homes (RFA).
The transport challenge was raised as a significant obstacle hindering the marketing of improved stoves in the southern zone, especially in landlocked localities. Thus, women's groups and young entrepreneurs requested tricycles in order to reduce the cost of transport.
Another real challenge is the availability of improved cookstoves locally, so the proposal to establish storage warehouses has been put forward as a tangible solution to alleviate these logistical problems.
In addition, the importance of strengthening communication channels was unanimously recognized as an imperative to ensure the continued success of the project. Strategies such as increased discussions and follow-up have been suggested to facilitate a smooth exchange of information between stakeholders.
Following these discussions, concrete actions were defined to improve the implementation of the RFA program in the Sédhiou region. Targeted training for groups involved in the marketing of improved stoves was envisaged, thus providing practical and technical support to strengthen their capacities.
The Project to Promote Climate-Friendly Cuisine, financed by the Green Climate Fund and coordinated by GIZ in Senegal, aims to change the behavior of rural, semi-urban and urban households in favor of the adoption of stoves improved. In Senegal, ENDA ÉNERGIE is one of the executing entities responsible for implementing this project in five regions: Fatick, Saint-Louis, Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor.
