Visit of the European Union Delegation to the Ngaparou Women's Federation as part of the Agir Petite Côte Project

On Monday October 9, 2023, the Director of Partnership Cooperation of the European Union, accompanied by other representatives of the EU delegation in Senegal, paid a visit to the Federation of Women of the Community Ecological Zone (ZEC ) of Ngaparou. This visit is part of the “Agir Petite Côte” project, set up by the consortium ENDA ENERGIE, JVE Sénégal and IPSIA, and financed by the European Union. The objective of this visit was to share with the women beneficiaries of the project, who are actively engaged in environmental initiatives.

Representatives of the consortium, such as Cheikh FALL, project manager at Enda Énergie, and Ibra Dioum SENE, socio-economist at IPSIA, answered questions from Ms. Érica Gerrestsen, Director of "Human Development, Migration, Governance and Peace" within the European Union. These discussions aimed to improve the organization of the federation in order to maximize the impact of their work.

The mayor of Ngaparou was also present to express her gratitude to the donors of this project. During the discussions, the question of waste sorting was raised. On this occasion, Ibra Sene recalled the ongoing collaboration with recycling plants in the region for the efficient disposal of plastic waste, thus enabling savings.

To facilitate the transport of waste from households to the Community Ecological Zone for sorting, a tricycle was given to the women. They also had the opportunity to present their needs to the delegation, particularly regarding the need for toilets, given that they spend the day on site, as well as the acquisition of other equipment to improve their work . Currently, they use big bags to store sorted plastic waste for marketing.

The women warmly thanked the consortium and reaffirmed their commitment to carrying out this project, which motivates them both to invest in environmental actions and to serve their community. The European Union representative concluded the visit by encouraging the women and letting them know that she remains committed to defending women's rights and promoting their autonomy within society.
