Senegal: 40 Energy Information System experts equipped with decision support tools

(Cio Mag) – Forty experts in Energy Information System (EIS) from Togo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Benin and Senegal took takes part in a training seminar on energy policy and economics organized for two weeks in Dakar by the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the Institut de la Francophonie pour le développement durable (IFDD ) and Enda Energie. The training, which ended last Saturday, aimed to provide experts with decision-making tools. As the UEMOA zone is characterized by a low rate of access to energy resources, these tools are necessary to offer players in the energy sector a clear and detailed vision of the needs of populations and energy efficiency niches. Getting out of visual control The objective of this training seminar for experts in Energy Information Systems is therefore to get out of visual control through good energy planning. Which planning starts from the collection of data from national, private suppliers and energy users, their validation and processing, to obtain a reliable and well-informed database system on each sector, each type of supply and consumption trends. The change in energy model is necessary Therefore, we understand why the director of Enda Energie, Sécou Sarr, observed during this seminar that the change in model is necessary for energy security and the improvement of conditions of life of the populations. According to him, more than 80% of households still use traditional biomass for cooking with its adverse effects on the health of women and girls, while the UEMOA zone has enormous potential for renewable energies.
