REGIONAL ACCELERATOR PROGRAM: CLIMATE ACTION AND HEALTH RESILIENCE IN WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA

Burkina Faso, Sénégal, Mali, Ghana, Guinée-Bissau, Tchad, Côte d'Ivoire

  • Description

    The regional accelerator program “Climate action and health resilience in West and Central Africa” aims to respond to the challenges posed by climate change in this region. West and Central Africa are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events, threatening public health systems. This program is an initiative of the S-The Sanofi Collective Foundation, which aims to support local solutions for adaptation and strengthening the resilience of communities to the effects of climate change on health

  • Major issue

    West and Central Africa faces growing public health challenges due to climate change, which could lead to up to 250,000 additional deaths per year by 2030 to 2050, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • Goals

    GO: Support the deployment and development of local solutions for adaptation and resilience to the impacts of climate change on the health of vulnerable communities.

    SO:

    Support the development of proposals for S Foundation calls
    Develop capacities and coaching of local organizations funded by Fondation S in the implementation of community adaptation solutions.
    Promote integrated research on climate action and health.
    Influencing policies and advocacy for climate action and health.
    Implement a digital monitoring-evaluation, learning and knowledge management framework.

  • Expected results

    The call for proposals is disseminated on several scales and mobilizes organizations;
     Local organizations are strengthened for technical and financial management, for the analysis of needs at the local level, for a good understanding of the issues linked to the climate and health issue;
     The health risks linked to climate change, their impacts, the solutions to reduce their scope, are known and documented, in a manner that is both continuous and transversal;
     Intersectorality is promoted in order to address the complex issues that arise in the territories. The climate change and health nexus is constructed and supported at different political levels in the territories;
     A computerized framework for collection, documentation and analysis is available and accessible. It is transversal to the different axes and makes it possible to manage the knowledge produced
