Towards a Green and Resilient Future: Co-building Sustainable Development Trajectories for Senegal

As part of the transition towards sustainable and climate-resilient development, ENDA ENERGIE recently organized an information meeting at the Ndiambour hotel, Dakar, on February 21, 2024. This meeting marked an important step in the initiative co-construction of low-carbon development trajectories, with the active participation of various key stakeholders, notably representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDDTE), the Ministry of Oil and Energy (MPE), as well as as ambassadors and thematic group leaders.

During this meeting, speakers highlighted the significant progress made in 2023, in particular the development and validation of Senegal's LTV presented at CoP28. This strategy, the result of a collaborative and innovative approach, has been widely praised for its alignment with national policies for economic development and the fight against climate change.

However, despite these successes, several challenges have been identified for the year 2024. In particular, that of reviewing the level of disaggregation of energy modeling data in order to ensure an accurate representation of energy transition scenarios. In addition, strengthening collaboration with partners and improving the engagement of institutional actors remain key priorities for the next phase of the initiative.

The operational plan for 2024 provides for a series of interactive phases, starting with energy transition modeling and scenario planning for the agriculture, industry and infrastructure sectors, followed by analysis of results and development of the Long-Term Strategy (LTS). This strategic approach aims to ensure a smooth transition towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

The development of the LTS was particularly discussed because of its strategic importance. Stakeholders agreed on the need to closely coordinate the efforts of MEDDTE, MPE and ENDA ENERGIE to mobilize the necessary resources and strengthen partnerships in order to successfully complete this crucial step.

This meeting highlighted Senegal's continued commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. Through a collaborative approach and innovation, the country is well positioned to become a regional leader in promoting low-carbon development trajectories.
