 Sustainable Energy for Entrepreneurship and Climate Programme (PEDEC))
Step 1 - Idea
Based on business models, this programme seeks to promote the productive use of renewable energies with a focus on photovoltaic solar energy for the creation of decent green jobs for young people and women living in rural and peri-urban areas of Senegal. More specifically, the aim is to install photovoltaic mini-solar power plants in the targeted areas in order to ensure electricity supply for productive uses such as: conservation (cold) and storage, processing (cereal milling, oil press, etc.), powering a multimedia centre, recharging batteries, and water pumping using a commercial approach.

As such, a methodological approach will be tested in the five (5) zones of the project to serve as a basic model. The aim is to test economic models in a perspective of changing the scale. For this pilot phase, the host areas identified are : Saint-Louis, Thiès, Kolda, Fatick, and the Niayes zone.
Step 2 - Collaboration
Availability of proven economic models for productive uses of energy
3 - Objectifs
To promote the productive use of solar photovoltaic energy for more added value in the sectors of production, processing and marketing of goods and services in off-grid areas with a view to creating decent green jobs for young people and women.

Specific objective 1: Mastering labour-intensive and climate-resilient value chains in the 5 zones;

Specific objective 2: Testing viable models for the productive use of solar photovoltaic energy through the concept of a Solar Powered Business Hub (SPBH).

Specific objective 3: Testing intelligent prototypes of "pay-as-you-go" (PAYGO) solar pumping in collaboration with the private sector (minimum power of 1 kW) by implementing a pre-payment system. This approach will allow the development of an innovative financing model for access to high-powered water pumps that can serve as alternatives to diesel pumps.

The project incorporates two major innovations:

- The financing model: the aim is to provide the beneficiaries with equipment (infrastructure) for productive use, for the creation of green jobs. Through this model, the assets set up by the social investor will eventually belong to the beneficiary operators (e.g. EIGs, companies, cooperatives, etc.).

- The concentration of economic units in the same space, powered by a photovoltaic generator.
