The NGO Enda Energie is working to implement strategies aimed at supporting the “ecological and economic transition” in the Mbour department, its project manager, Mame Bousso Faye, revealed on Tuesday. She intends to achieve this through the implementation of a program of good ecological governance in the Intercommunal Agreement of the Petite Côte (EIPC) for integrated management of coastal zones (GIZC), she specified in the framework of World Environment Day, at the Saly Portudal high school. “The idea is to work together, to pool resources and forces to overcome certain environmental issues that a municipality alone could not resolve,” said Ms. Faye. The EIPC-GIZC program, funded by the European Union (EU), consists of “supporting ecological and economic change through the development of an eco-citizen culture for intercommunal and participatory governance of natural resources”. Dedicated to the municipalities of Malicounda, Somone, Saly-Portudal, Ngaparou and Mbour, this program includes, among other activities, capacity building for territorial actors, students, teachers and media professionals, explained Ms. Faye. “There will also be planning to allow municipalities, which are in reality the local decision-makers, to have a portfolio of projects and programs to fight climate change and move towards the energy transition,” she said. continued, adding that the aim is to be able to train young people aware of environmental issues. For the president of the school parliament of the Saly-Portudal high school, Adama Gning, the best way to fight against the proliferation of plastic waste is to move towards its recovery, through recycling to make it "gold hard". She believes that plastic waste, once recycled, can contribute to the creation of jobs and wealth. Source (APS)
